Church Organisation

There are four General Church Meetings per year and additional Special Meetings can be called if necessary. Business items include the approval of the Annual Budget and consideration of the Audited Accounts. As well as covering all the expenses of maintaining the church buildings and meeting Methodist/URC assessment costs, Trinity is asked to contribute to Church in Abingdon initiatives and to support local and national causes. Apart from business, the Church Meetings provide an opportunity for members to discuss the spiritual life of the church and to receive reports from various committees and groups, including Finance & Property, Pastoral, Mission, Worship, Co-ordinating, Trinity Youth Project, Methodist Circuit, URC District Council and Synod and the Church in Abingdon. Church Meeting agendas always allow plenty of time for prayer and worship and members testify to the warm sense of fellowship that these occasions engender.

Pastoral Groups

Nearly 30 serving Elders exercise regular pastoral care over all members and friends who attend Trinity. Each Elder has a pastoral group which he or she visits on a monthly basis to deliver 'Triangle' (the church magazine) and through these visits the Senior Elder and Interim ModMarylyn as people's Steward on Feb6th 2005derator can be alerted to any special need which may require further action. This network of pastoral support for one another is regarded as one of the strengths of the Trinity fellowship.

Stewards

Church Stewards are in attendance at Services to organise the proceedings. One Steward is there for welcoming and attending on the preacher before and after the service. A second Steward welcomes and attends to the congregation. A third Steward organises the books and service sheets. The role of Steward has grown from the Methodist tradition.

The TradeCraft StoreThe Mission Group

A Mission Group meets regularly to plan mission services, co-ordinate an annual programme of special envelope collections for various charitable causes and to cooperate with local and national concerns such as the Jubilee Campaign Debt Network, the Helping the Homeless Scheme, the Abingdon Bridge etc. Trinity members actively take part in fund-raising for such causes as NCH Action for Children, Christian Aid, Bible Society, Methodist Homes for the Aged, and are always ready to contribute to collections for national and international emergencies. Trinity is part of Abingdon Traidcraft Group and as well as supporting town-wide initiatives members run a regular stall at Saturday lunches and after Sunday morning services once a month.
