Trinity Church Abingdon

Worship
Home | Church in Abingdon | Local Circuit | URC Church | Methodist Church

Visitors and newcomers are always warmly welcomed at Trinity services. There is an easy sloping pathway to the main entrance of the church which affords access. The church is fitted with an induction loop for hearing aid users. There are boxes of toys for toddlers in the Welcome Area to which the service is clearly relayed enabling parents to stay with their small children if they wish.

9.15am Early Morning Communion

This half-hour service is held on the second Sunday morning of each month.

10.30 am Family Worship, Junior Church and Holy Communion

Children and young people worship with the adult congregation for 20 minutes or so and then move to the hall to continue their activities in Junior Church. Visiting children are welcome to go over to Junior Church. For All-Age services (4 times a year) and on special The Alter Window occasions (eg Harvest, Easter, Parade services) the children and young people remain for the whole service. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated each month, and takes the form of All-Age Communion twice a year.

Guest preachers are invited for services on special topics or themes eg mission. Members of the congregation participate in every service by reading the lessons.

We have both a Choir and a Worship Group that regularly give a musical lead in worship.

Each week members of the congregation bring gifts of tinned food, groceries and household or personal items which are then dedicated with the offertory and subsequently distributed to various local centres for homeless people.

Following the service everyone is welcome to stay on for a friendly chat. Coffee and tea are served in the church. There is a Bookstall in the Welcome area, and once a month there is a Traidcraft Stall in the Welcome Area.

4.00pm Tea-Time Service

These tea-time services have become a popular feature in the pattern of Sunday worship at Trinity. They are held about once a month instead of the 6.30pm service and are arranged to celebrate a special anniversary or event eg Party Praise for Toddlers, Marriage Thanksgiving, Bereavement and Remembrance, Evergreens, Parade. Tea is served afterwards in the church to enable people to meet each other informally.

6.30pm Evening Worship, Holy Communion and Healing Services

Once a month, usually on the third Sunday evening, there is a celebration of Holy Communion combined with an Act of Healing, led by a minister. The quiet reflective nature of these services serves to meet people's personal and spiritual needs. On the remaining Sunday evenings the services are usually led by local preachers. United evening services with All Saints, Abingdon have become a frequent event. Joint services with all the churches in Abingdon occur four times a year, and Trinity members join neighbouring churches to celebrate special occasions in the Christian calendar eg Prayer for Christian Unity, Christian Aid Week, Advent.
